  • Drivers Education Classroom In-Person (+Behind The Wheel)

    Driver’s Education Program Information Eligibility & Registration Students should be 15 (or close to 15) to register for this course. When registering, please include the parent’s email address as the primary contact. A student email may be added as a secondary option. Register online at www.trf.reg.eleyo.com. (Registration links are listed below). To help ensure a safe and successful experience, please indicate on the registration form if your student has any special needs or requires accommodations. Class size is limited, so register early. To receive a refund or transfer to another section, you must notify Community Education at least 7 business days before the class start date. Students who withdraw after class begins will forfeit tuition. Tuition & Fees Tuition is $400, due at the time of registration. This includes: 30 hours of classroom instruction 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) training OR 4 hours BTW + 8 hours of simulation (4 sessions of 2 hours each) Additional fees: $50 for ½ hour of extra driving if a simulator session is missed $100 per hour for missed BTW appointments (10 min wait time only) Late cancellation (less than 12 hours) may result in a charge Program completion timeline: Course must be completed within 1 year $70 fee after 1 year $90 fee after 18 months + $10/month thereafter Attendance & Expectations Attendance is mandatory and required by the State of Minnesota. E-cards will not be issued until all requirements are met. Absences will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis only in circumstances beyond the student's control, such as a serious illness or family emergency. Additional fees may be assessed to cover any required make-up instruction resulting from missed class time. All cell phones must be placed in the cell phone caddy during class. Discipline Policy Students are expected to be respectful, responsible, and engaged. 1st offense: Verbal warning 2nd offense: Parent contacted (must respond) 3rd offense: Removal from class with no refund Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) Training BTW training is typically scheduled 6–8 weeks before the road test and is arranged directly with instructors based on availability. Email drivers.ed@myprowler.org as soon as you receive your blue card to get on the schedule for BTW. Students will be issued the white e-card after completion of BTW. Students must: Show up on time Cancel at least 12 hours in advance to avoid charges Supervised Driving Requirements To take the road test, students must complete: 40 hours of supervised driving (15 at night) or 50 hours if the parent class is not completed Testing & Licensing Parent Requirement Questions?     Thief River Falls Community Education is happy to be partnering with the A+ Driving School. A+ Driving School has designed their own fully online class platform (excluding behind-the-wheel instruction) made specifically for MINNESOTA STUDENTS. Their program is approved by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and utilizes proven teaching methods that keep the student engaged throughout the learning process. Key Benefits: Start classes anytime and take at your own pace up to 3 hours a day. Classes are available On-Demand and are self-paced. Entertaining "Live" classroom setting. Minimal reading for students. Free Study Guide to all students. "Hands On" activities to reinforce information and get parents involved. 24/7 instructor support. Once your student has successfully completed the 30 hours of online classroom instruction, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to contact Community Education to ensure the student is entered into the BLUE e-Card database. Students will pay a $20 activation fee at the start of the course when registering with A+ Driving School.     Drivers Education Parent Course This 90-minute course is designed for parents or guardians who will serve as the primary driving supervisor for their teen. You’ll learn about Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) laws, teen driving risks, and how your guidance can keep your teen safe on the road. This course helps parents understand their responsibilities, supports effective teen driving supervision, and ensures compliance with Minnesota state requirements. Included with student tuition at no extra cost if your teen registers with drivers education through Thief River Falls Community Education. Driving log requirements: With course completion: 40 hours of supervised driving, including 15 hours at night Without course completion: 50 hours, including 15 hours at night Certificate of Completion: Provided upon finishing the class; required before your teen can take the driver’s test if less than 50 hours are logged.
